Students are encouraged to seek out as many internship opportunities as possible during their college careers either as volunteers, for academic credit, as part-time paying jobs or as a combination of these experiences.

Information about internships and job opportunities will be posted here as they become available.

REQUIREMENTS FOR M.A AND PPS CREDENTIAL IN COUNSELOR EDUCATION:

To obtain the PPS Credential in School Counseling, you are required to complete 9 units of Field Experience at two public school levels totaling 600 hours through EDCO 292.

**EdCo 292 is not required for M.A candidates, but highly recommended**

COUNSELING INTERN NEEDED

TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) is seeking one (1) counseling services intern for the 2013-14 academic terms. The intern will serve as a member of the professional staff and will provide general student support of project participants.  Under the supervision of the Coordinator and/or Retention Specialist, the intern will undertake counseling responsibilities which may include academic and career assessment activities, workshop presentations, and/or assisting with the development of social-cultural enrichment events.  A possible project may entail the development of a supplemental instruction component.

Monte Vista Christian School is hiring a High School College and Career Advisor/Registrar for the upcoming school year. This position will entail working with a team of College and Career Advisors to assist students to develop their God given gifts and find a college of their choice. 

The primary responsibilities include: 

  • Providing academic support and counsel to high school students about the college admissions process and their academic progress.
  • Reviewing and maintaining student records to ensure graduation requirements are met.
  • Coordinating college and career workshops for students and parents.
  • Proactively intervening when a student’s academic performance drops.

Qualifications

  • Organizational and communication skills and the capacity commensurate with the major responsibilities.
  • Capacity to operate an academic advising program and effectively serve our student body within a computerized technology environment.
  • Be an exemplary Christian role model, demonstrating strong Christian character in word and deed.  Must take a biblical approach to Christian education with a strong spiritual stance that conveys the same to the school community.
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher, PPS credential, and a minimum 1 year experience.  Previous classroom experience desired.

AIESEC provides students the opportunities to fully immerse oneself in another culture, while developing oneself professionally and personally.  With this being said, we offer international exchange opportunities in four categories: volunteer work, business, education, or technology.

EOP is now accepting Peer Mentor applications for our “I Can, I Will”  program for the Fall 2013 semester.

“I Can, I Will” is a First-Year Experience program focused on increasing the retention and graduation rates of African-American and Latino males in the SJSU EOP Program. Fall 2013 will be the program's third year and we are excited to offer employment opportunities to the campus at large.

CTY offers challenging academic programs for highly talented elementary, middle, and high school students from across the country and around the world. What is an Academic Counselor?

The academic counselor position at CTY is similar to that of a school counselor. As a member of the site administrative team, the academic counselor provides short-term goal-focused counseling services and supports with the CTY residential and instructional staff in meeting the social, emotional, and educational needs of students. Academic counselors observe classes, participate in student activities, facilitate workshops for students and staff, and maintain regular office hours. The academic counselor is often a point of contact for families and assists in coordinating efforts to accommodate students with disabilities and special needs. COUNSELING INTERNS NEEDED

Small charter high school with integrative curriculum seeks counseling interns for its daily advisory program and general student support. Get involved with a new school that is merging college preparation with real-world experience. Interns will work closely with staff to help students meet their academic needs, build a positive school culture, reflect on social issues, and develop skills of self-management.

Communitas Charter High School (www.communitascharter.org) opened in August 2012 with sixty 9th and 10th graders and plans to expand to 150 students next year. Its innovative program focuses on inquiry-based learning with thematic studies across the disciplines. The school also emphasizes mindfulness practice, personal reflection, and service learning.

Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative (BARHII) is seeking an intern 

Under the guidance of the BARHII Executive Director and Program Manager, the intern will be responsible for spearheading the following project:

Development of resources to share with public health and education agencies via BARHII’s learning community and/or regional convenings that identify local and national best practices in policy and programming which aim to increase educational attainment. Some aspects of this project are to (1) research and recommend priority data indicators for monitoring educational milestones such as pre-school, kindergarten readiness, 3rd grade reading, college preparation, high school graduation, etc., (2) identify successful education system policies that increase equitable, quality education and decrease the educational achievement gap, and (3) research successful public health programming and/or collaborations with schools which integrate educational attainment goals into public health practice.

The Academic Advisor, as part of the Engineering Student Success Center team, reports to and receives work from the Assistant Director for Advising providing primarily 1-on-1 and small group academic advising to undergraduates in the College of Engineering. This includes academic probation advising, general education advising, transfer student advising and other support services as well as interpreting and explaining CoE, SJSU, and CSU policies and procedures. The advisor will also gain knowledge of campus resources and refer students as appropriate.

Latino College Pre Charter, East San Jose

Two immediate internship opportunities (none paid) for graduate students. Potential interns will be counseling high performing graduating seniors and juniors in East San Jose at Latino College Prep Charter. The internship opportunities are pretty much open Monday through Thursday from 9:00am to 3:30pm, interns can come during these hours. Interns would need to be able commit for at least a semester. Schedules are workable. This is a great opportunity to for interns becoming involved in teaching workshops with students at different themes each week.
