How to Apply
Whether you are applying for the Undergraduate degee, the Masters degree, or are an international student, this is where you will find the forms and checklists necessary to complete your enrollment. Application Requirements- Bachelor Degree
- 2.8 overall GPA will be first considered
- Satisfactory English competency (evaluated by department faculty)
- Commitment to human development services (evaluated by recommendation letters and autobiography)
- For international students, a score above 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) on the TOEFL test.

Application Checklist
- International Students Only: Take TOEFL Test, and have ETS
send your official TOFEL transcript to SJSU. - Apply Online at CSUMentor

- Obtain One Official Sealed Transcript from Each College/ University Where You Studied.
- There will be a $55.00 Application Fee on CSUMentor.
- Submit Official Sealed Transcript(s) to: Graduate Studies & Research San Jose State University One Washington Square San Jose, CA 95192-0025
- Three Letters of Recommendation: At least one letter should be using the recommended format [doc]. Letters of recommendation can be no older than the semester applying.
- Write an Autobiographical and Professional Goals Statement:
- At least 2 pages that include:
- Experiences and education which demonstrate your concern and capacity to work with people.
- Your professional goals in pursuing the degree and /or credential {including any special areas of interest in counseling}.
- Any additional information that is important to you.
Submit 2 pages of Autobiography, and three Letters of Recommendation to:

- Check your application status online at MySJSU (ID and PINs are provided shortly after you submit your application by Graduate Studies)
- NOTE: After your application has been submitted to the university, it will be evaluated against the minimum university entrance criteria. If your application has met the requirements, it will be sent to our department for consideration. The total processing time is between five to six weeks after all necessary documents have been received in Gradate Studies Admissions, so we recommend that you submit your application early in the processing cycle.
