Academic Vocational Charter Institute, Watsonville,  is looking for counseling interns to conduct

1. One-on-one counseling twice per week for 3-4 hours each time, late morning and early afternoon (time includes setting up, calling out kids)
2. Two group drug and alcohol sessions once per month for 2-3 hours, late morning and early afternoon. (time includes setting up and calling out kids)

We will, however, be accommodating to the needs of the intern regarding services and hours.

We are a small charter high school (current enrollment is 62), grades 9-12,  in Watsonville, in the  Pajaro Valley Unified School District. Most of our students are considered "at-risk" and are very good kids. The issue they struggle with is not disruptive classroom behavior or disrespect. Rather, many lack motivation to make much effort. Many come from broken families and/or live in poverty. We have a very peaceful school; there has been only 1 fight in 6 years. The atmosphere here is very congenial.

Our school's mission is to prepare previously underperforming students to thrive in four year universities. We are proud of the culture and academic program we have built at DCP, but we need help to support our students emotionally and socially.
