Project YEA is looking for advocates to help promote the educational right of youth.
What is a YEA?
It is for individual and dependents of the Court, the YEA volunteer acts in partnership with the parent or guardian to seek and monitor free appropriate public education. The YEA volunteer is assigned by the YEA! Project staff to participate in the IEP process.
Roles of the YEA Volunteer
- Gathers and reviews information on eligibility and assessments.
- Participates in planning meetings w/the parent, probation officer, or social worker
- May meet with teacher to observe students behavior or learning environment
- Participates as an active member of the youths educational planning team
- Supports parent/youth in conflict resolution efforts to educational services
- Monitors timely implementation of educational plan and ongoing compliance
- Communicates compliance concerns to the Project YEA! Staff to determine next steps
- Provides periodic updates to Project YEA! Staff regarding case progress on behalf of the student.
