The Program

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance is a professional degree that offers concentrations in modern or jazz technique, as well as comprehensive study in choreography, theory, and performance. It is an intense program of study and is specifically designed to prepare students for the competitive career of dance performance. Guided by dedicated faculty and prominent guest artists, students will be challenged with technical practice in various dance techniques, theoretical study in several areas, and multiple performance opportunities. We are confident that our BFA program will encourage each student in his or her unique talents to grow into a successful dancer and a significant contributor to the artistic community.

Auditions

All BFA candidates are required to audition for acceptance into the dance program. Students may audition anytime during their freshman, sophomore, or junior year. Auditions for Fall 2014 will be held in WSQ 204 on November 7, 2011 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m and for Spring 2015 will be held on March 6, 2015 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The audition is comprised of three 30-minute classes, one each in modern, jazz, and ballet as well as an improvisational section. Applicants must also perform a prepared one- to three-minute piece that exhibits the applicant’s performing and technical strengths. Bring a CD or iPod to the audition. Please arrive a few minutes early to fill out forms and to warm up. Bring appropriate dance shoes for each class. Wear dance clothing that allows your bodylines to be visible, no extra layers.
