Discovering Dance

The Dance Program at San José State University has a long history of excellence, offering solid dance training and a diverse academic education. Committed to a high standard, the program offers the professional Bachelor of Fine Arts and the Bachelor of Arts degrees.

As an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Dance, the program currently hosts approximately eighty-five majors, offering all students many opportunities to develop their potential and explore new ideas, both as performers and choreographers. The entire faculty, along with special guest artists, guide their students with extensive experience in performance and choreography.

Students are guided through all levels of Contemporary, Classical Ballet, Jazz, Limón Technique, Graham based Technique, Contemporary Ballet, and Tap.

The program sponsors an pre-professional performing company, University Dance Theatre, an ensemble dedicated to modern and contemporary dance performance.

Whether your career goals include performance, choreographing, or simply expanding your knowledge of one of the most expressive forms of art, we are confident that you will find it here. The policies and procedures for the Dance program are described in the following sections.
