For SJSU Dance Majors

With a program that greatly emphasizes performance, dance majors are eligible to perform their freshman year. The dance program presents at least three separate fully produced student concerts annually, providing ample performance opportunities. Two student companies also present opportunities for performance on a more accelerated scale with work by professional choreographers. Majors are eligible to audition for these companies at the end of their freshman year.

In addition, the program sponsors nine informal showings each year of studies from Choreography classes, in which all students participate. In their senior year, all majors are required to perform in the Portfolio Concert to be evaluated in performance and/or choreography. Performances take place in the Studio Dance Theatre, which is fully equipped with a Marley floor, theatrical draperies, lighting, and sound.
