Agha Saeed earned his BA in Political Science at the
University of the Punjabijn Pakistan, and his MA and Ph.D. in Rhetoric from
University of California at Berkeley. He was also an exchange scholar at
Harvard
University. For the last eighteen years, he
has taught at UC Berkeley, San
Francisco State
University and San Jose State University. Presently, he teaches at CSU East Bay. He has authored a number of scholarly
articles including five essays in the Encyclopedia of Capitalism. He is author of two forthcoming books Pakistan in its Own Mirror: Elite
Autobiographies and National Consciousness and Syncretic Self-Understanding of South Asian
Muslims: Texts and Contexts. Dr. Saeed has organized and led several
statewide and national organizations which include: American Muslim Alliance (AMA), American Muslim Political Coordination
Council (AMPCC), American Muslim
Taskforce on Civil Rights and Elections (AMT), California Civil Rights Alliance
(CCRA), which includes 25 major mainstream organizations including the Green and
Libertarian Parties, and Catholic, Episcopalian, and Unitarian Churches.
Dr. Saeed has been profiled in
full length articles in The New York Times, Washington Report on Middle Eastern
Affairs, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner, San Jose Mercury News,
and The Argus to name a few. since September 2001 Dr. Saeed has
delivered more than 100 public lectures to campus and community audiences,
including Georgetown University, University of Wisconsin, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, Indiana
University, San Francisco State
University, California
State University East Bay as well as The Woodrow Wilson International Center for
Scholars, The Rotary Club and The Commonwealth Club. In 2003, Dr. Saeed was the keynote
speaker at the annual state conventions of the Green and Libertarian parties of
California. He
was also one of the keynote speakers at the Green Party USA national convention
in Wisconsin
in 2004.
