GENERAL INFO
Cadets at Detachment 045 have a more unique
college experience than most other college students. Once a week,
cadets attend ROTC classes taught by commissioned Air Force officers (cadre
members). These classes are worth one to three credits at
Every Thursday, cadets attend a mandatory Leadership Laboratory (LLab) from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. This is an opportunity for the older cadets to practice their leadership skills, while younger cadets learn basic, but essential, skills such as marching and uniform wear. With the cadre’s approval, cadet officer organize LLab as a training environment for all cadets. Cadets are required to be in uniform all day during LLab day. Though it can be demanding, LLab is a great time for cadets to get to know one another and work together as a team.
Physical fitness is a necessity at Detachment 045. Cadets are expected to exercise during their free time. They also have the opportunity to participate in Enhanced Physical Fitness Training (EPFT). EPFT takes place in the mornings during the week, it focuses on running and strength training. These physical fitness opportunities are offered because cadets must pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT), which consists of running, sit-ups, and push-ups. It is important that all cadets pass the PFT so that they may qualify for Field Training and AFROTC scholarships.
Life at Detachment 045 is not all hard work. Besides the required classes and Leadership Laboratories, many other opportunities exist for cadets to become involved in the detachment, including Arnold Air Society and the Precision Drill Unit. Other activities such as fundraisers and trips to military bases are organized throughout the year for cadets who want to learn more about the military lifestyle. The Air Force ROTC program helps fund these activities, and also offer a limited number of scholarships to qualified ROTC cadets. Twice a year, cadets may apply for a variety of ROTC scholarships that can pay up to full college tuition.
Aside from
AFROTC Detachment 045 receives generous support from many local
community organizations, including the Tennessee Ernie Ford Chapter of the
