Dr. James Brent joined the faculty in 1994. James is a native of Southern California who received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising from Southern Methodist University in 1988. Dr. Brent received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Ohio State University in 1995. (Click here to view his curriculum vita.) His heroes include former Supreme Court Justices William Brennan and Thurgood Marshall. Although Dr. Brent was recently named "second hippest faculty member of the department", his classes are demanding! Dr. Brent expects his students to participate actively in and study hard for his courses. His current research agenda focuses on how lower courts implement the decisions of higher courts. He has recently published an article in Comparative State Politics and an another article in the Southeastern Political Review. He has another article forthcoming in the April 1999 edition of American Politics Quarterly. He has also recently edited a book entitled Issues in American Government published by Morton Publishing
