Dr. Sharyl Cross is a professor within the Department of Political Science at San Jose State University
in California. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University
of California, Los Angeles (1990). Dr. Cross was a Graduate Fellowship
Scholar at the RAND/UCLA Center for Soviet Studies (1984-1987) and
Post-Doctoral US State Department Title VIII Scholar at the Hoover
Institution at Stanford University (1991-1992). During 1994-1996,
she was Visiting Professor of International Security and Transregional
Studies at the United States Air University/Air War College at Maxwell
Air Force Base in Montgomery Alabama. Dr. Cross has published numerous
articles in scholarly journals and books on topics pertaining to
US-Russian security relations, Russian foreign policy and other
international relations issues. She has received grant awards from
IREX, US State Department (Title VIII), NATO-EAPC, Kennan Institute
for Advanced Russian Studies and California State University to
support research concerning Russian international behavior and regional
security issues (Balkans and Latin America). Her books include Global
Security Beyond the Millennium: American and Russian Perspectives
co-edited with Igor A. Zevelev, Victor A. Kremenyuk
and Vagan M. Gevorgian, Macmillan Press, 1999 and The New Chapter
in United States-Relations: Opportunities and Challenges, co-edited
with Marina A. Oborotova, Praeger, 1994. Her articles have appeared
in Communist and Post Communist Studies, Mediterranean Quarterly,
Survey, Journal of Political and Military Sociology, Presidential
Studies Quarterly and SShA. Her recent study entitled “Russia
and NATO Toward the 21st Century: Conflicts and Peacekeeping in
Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo” is published at NATO’s
Academic Forum and the Journal of Slavic Military Studies (July
2002). Dr. Cross received the “Outstanding Professor”
award in the Political Science Department at San Jose State University
in 1998 and her courses in international education have been featured
in the Chronicle of Higher Education and other publications. As
a Senior Fulbright Scholar recipient in 1999, Dr. Cross was Research
Scholar/Professor at the Institute of USA and Canada Studies of
the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Moscow State Institute of
International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the
Russian Federation (MGIMO).
