| ($1,500) is funded by generous donations from our graduates and is available to all Political Science majors. Applicants for the Alumni Scholarship must be full-time Political Science majors taking a minimum of 12 units. Awarded annually. |
| The Burton R. Brazil Scholarship |
| ($1,500) is funded by an endowment created by the family, friends and colleagues of Burt Brazil, a respected professor of political science who specialized in political theory and public administration and who served as Executive Vice President for SJSU. Applicants must be full-time students, either graduate or undergraduate, majoring in political science or public administration, with a strong academic record and a commitment to a career in public service or teaching. Applicants must submit a short statement on their career goals and how the scholarship will assist them in their studies. Awarded annually. |
| The Les Francis Scholarship for Civic Education |
| ($1,500) was created by Les Francis and endowed by Mr. Francis and his many friends, admirers and fellow political consultants. The scholarship is intended to support practical experience through internships in politics at the local, state or federal level and for current and prospective teachers of high school civics. Applicants must submit a statement of their current employment in teaching or their current status as students preparing for a career in teaching and a description of the internship the scholarship would support. Professor Terry Christensen is available to facilitate internship placements. |
| The John Gilbert Scholarship for International Studies |
| ($3,000) is exclusively for students who participate in a study abroad program. Applicants for the John Gilbert Scholarship for International Studies must be Political Science majors in a study abroad program with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Students with applications for international study pending are eligible to apply. Applicants must be full-time Political Science majors taking a minimum of 12 units and must submit a short statement on the relevance of study abroad to the achievement of their educational and professional goals. Awarded annually. |
| The Wesley “Bud” Hubbard Scholarship |
| ($1,250) is named for a long-time local political leader and is for students interested in state or local government and politics. Applications must be accompanied by a typed, double-spaced essay of up to 500 words on "Why I Am Interested in Public Service." Essays will not be returned. Applicants must be full-time Political Science majors taking a minimum of 12 units. Awarded annually. |
| The Charles Kunsman Scholarship |
| ($1,500) was created by former students of this popular professor with the support of his colleagues and family. Professor Kunsman is fondly recalled for his personal warmth, humor and love of teaching comparative politics, given color by anecdotes from his extensive travels. Applicants must be full time undergraduate political science majors with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Awarded in even-numbered years (2008). |
| The Douglas McIntyre Award |
| ($1,250) was established by the family of this life-long public servant and is open to all Political Science majors. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic performance and need. Applicants must be full-time Political Science majors taking a minimum of 12 units and must be eligible for financial aid at SJSU. Awarded in even-numbered years (2008). |
| The Fauneil J. Rinn Scholarship |
| ($1000) honors the late Professor Fanny Rinn and commemorates her advocacy of the advancement of women. Applicants must be women majoring in political science or public administration (MPA) and must submit a resume and a 500-word essay on a subject relevant to the political or governmental role of women. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Awarded annually. (Please Note: This fund is administered by the Community Foundation of Silicon Valley.) |
| The Roy E. Young Scholarship |
| ($1,500) was established by friends and former students of Roy E. Young in appreciation of his inspiring teaching and mentoring, and for his constant and enthusiastic interest in politics. This scholarship is designated for students majoring in US Politics. Applicants for the Roy Young Scholarship must submit a short essay on a book or books about U.S. politics that inspired them to pursue a political science major. All essays must be typed, double-spaced, and submitted with the application. Essays will not be returned. Applicants should be full-time Political Science majors taking a minimum of 12 units. Awarded in odd-numbered years (2009). |

| SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNS IN SACRAMENTO AND WASHINGTON, DC |

Washington Scholarships. ($4,000 or more). The Political Science Department administers two scholarships for internships in Congress in Washington, DC. A summer scholarship of $4,000 is for political science majors only (3-6 units). A scholarship for a fully-funded internship in Washington through the Panetta Institute in the fall semester is available for SJSU students of any major (12-20 units through CSU-Monterey Bay). Applications for these scholarships are due on April 4, 2008. For further information, see Professor Terry Christensen.
