There
are two parts to graduation ceremonies for Anthropology and Behavioral Science majors at San José State. The University commencement ceremonies take place at Spartan Stadium between 9:30 and 12:30 AM (rain or shine). Graduates must assemble by 9:00 A.M. More information can be obtained at the Commencement website. Our own departmental ceremony will take place at noon in Washington Square Hall Room 4 on 5/24/08, immediately following the University Commencement at Spartan Stadium. Refreshments will be provided, as well as an opportunity to chat with friends, family and faculty members. At 12:30pm-1:00pm we will move across the hallway to room WSQ109 for the formal part of the event. Each student (wearing cap and gown) will be introduced, presented with a signed departmental certificate of recognition, and given the opportunity to take a few minutes to share any thoughts about completing this milestone in their life. You are under no obligation to say anything, but we encourage you to do so. You may, for example, wish to thank particular people for their support, comment generally on what your education has meant to you, or simply say a few words about your future plans. If you prefer not to say anything you may rest assured that you will not be pressured to do so. After you receive your certificate you will pass along a receiving line to be greeted by each member of the faculty (also in cap and gown). Following the formal part of the event you invited back to the reception for further refreshments.
This event recognizes the achievements of our graduating students and it provides an opportunity for you to celebrate with family, friends and the faculty. We encourage you to attend and would like to provide you with two complimentary tickets to the event. You may also invite additional guests by purchasing in advance up to ten tickets at $4.00 each. Please make all checks payable to Anthropology Donations. If you wish to accept this invitation (or simply receive your departmental certificate by mail), please provide the information on the Convocation Form and return the RSVP to the department office (Clark 469) by Monday, May 5th, 2008. Please include payment for any guest tickets with the RSVP. You may also mail your response to the Department of Anthropology, San Jose State University, 1 Washington Square, San Jose, CA 95192-0113.
