The
four Behavioral Science majors are designed for students who
desire a broad-based understanding of the behavioral sciences.
Each of the four majors allows students to combine courses
from anthropology, psychology, and sociology in order to develop
an inter-disciplinary perspective on human behavior. The majors
are especially appropriate for students preparing to work
in jobs which require extensive understanding of human behavior,
such as social work, human resource management, counseling,
teaching, etc. The three double majors (described below) allow
students to emphasize one of the three behavioral sciences,
and they provide appropriate preparation for graduate work
in anthropology, psychology, and sociology, or for professional
training in law, management, or health care.

In order to graduate with
a degree in Behavioral Science, you must fulfill the requirements

ADVISING
Behavioral Science advisors
are available to assist you in formulating your educational
goals, as well as to design an individual plan of study that
will help you reach them. Students typically receive initial
advising during the New Student Advising Day the semester before
they enroll at San José State. Each student must see
an advisor during his or her first semester of enrollment at
San José State University in order to receive assistance
in developing a plan of study and to ensure that they are aware
of university and major requirements. Advisors can assist students
in fulfilling general education requirements and in handling
questions about transferring units from other colleges. Finally,
students should visit an advisor at the start of the semester
prior to the one in which they plan to graduate in order to
complete the Major Form required for graduation.
All advising for the four Behavioral Science majors is performed
by the Department of Anthropology faculty.
GETTING STARTED
Students typically begin by
enrolling in the appropriate introductory courses (e.g. ANTH
011, PSYC 001, SOCI 001), and completing a statistics course
as soon as possible. In order to enroll in a statistics class
you must pass the Entry Level Math test (ELM), or have completed
two years of high school algebra, or complete Math 7. You must
enroll in ANTH 100W, PSYC 100W, SOCI 100W, or SOCS 100W if you
are required to complete a Junior Level Writing class. Refer
to the Fulfilling University Requirements guide for further
information.
You may simultaneously enroll in the appropriate anthropology,
psychology, and sociology courses. |
