| The
discipline of Anthropology investigates the question, "What
does it mean to be human?" Anthropologists study the biological
basis of human behavior, the common threads of the human experience,
as well as the diversity of cultural systems in the contemporary
world. |
SJSU offers a
Behavioral Science major which allows students to develop an inter-disciplinary
perspective on human behavior. This major may be paired with one
of three additional majors to enhance your understanding. These
majors are especially appropriate for students preparing to work
in jobs which require extensive understanding of human behavior,
such as social work, human resource management, counseling, teaching,
etc. Students may focus their studies on anthropology, psychology,
or sociology by pursuing the appropriate double major. |

Anthropology
Minors
An anthropology minor provides a valuable complement
to many different majors. Many students who minor in anthropology
are majoring in the social sciences, but the minor is especially
relevant to business majors and pre-professional students (e.g.
law, medicine, social work). In fact, students planning any
career in which understanding human behavior is important can
benefit greatly from an anthropology minor. Many students, of
course, minor in anthropology simply because they find that
learning about the human species is interesting and enjoyable.
Students with a special interest in Native Americans may also
pursue a minor in Native American Studies.
