Please welcome Dr. Guadalupe
Salazar
to our department.


Dr. Guadalupe Salazar has a
doctorate in Medical Anthropology from the joint program at
the University of California San Francisco/Berkeley, in addition
to a Masters in Public Health from Boston University. Her special
fields of interest are the anthropology of childhood, human
rights and social suffering. Her dissertation work was entitled
Street Children in Chile: Second Class Citizens in the Making.
She has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UCSF in the Division
of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition where
she taught medical students and worked with children and youth
in the Bay Area diagnosed with gastrointestinal diseases. She
has published in journals of anthropology and Latin American
studies. She comes with a strong background in community engagement
and research, having participated in the Peace Corps in the
Federal Islamic Republic of the Comoros in Africa, in the Americorps,
the New England Research Institute and the California Mini-Corps.
Dr. Salazar brings a distinctive combination of expertise in
ethnographic research with children and work in community organizations.
