COURSE DESCRIPTION

Glass l40 is a survey class and general introduction to creative, conceptual, historical and technical aspects of glass working presented by :demonstrations, hands on practice and research projects. Sculptural, architectural, design, and craft approaches are addressed.

Demonstrations and projects will cover the following:
* safety procedures: safe and correct procedures and use of glass equipment and materials
* glass techniques
-hot glass: blowing & casting -kiln formed glass: slumping & fusing
-cold working: grinding and polishing -kiln casting
-surface treatments: painting & sandblasting -flat glass fabrication, glass gluing
*shop maintenance and shop repair
o glass community involvement
* development of ways of working with glass that cultivate personal expression, aesthetic
sensitivity to design, sculpture and imagination
