Here's some information that students might be interested in helping out with.I'm running energy teams to add energy & water conservation measures to Christmas in April homes in the Bay Area(more info below). Right now I especially need some South Bay volunteers. I'd appreciate your help getting the word out to San Jose State University students about this volunteer/educational opportunity!
Thanks - Lisa

Hello friends & colleagues -I'm looking for volunteers to join Energy Team 2000! These volunteers will implement energy and water conservation measures in 200 homes being rehabilitated by Christmas in April.
Christmas in April is a volunteer organization that rehabs & repairs homes for low-income, disabled or senior citizens who can't pay for or perform this work on their own. All work is done by volunteers, under the supervision of house captains, on a single Saturday in April this year on April 29th. Christmas in April will typically tackle painting, earthquake & general safety improvements, disabled access issues, etc.
Energy Team 2000 volunteers add energy and water efficiency measures to the work normally being done. Energy Teams of 5 to 6 people will travel from house to house on Saturday, April 29, 2000, applying various efficiency measures - such as adding compact fluorescent lamps, caulking and weather-stripping, and adding water heater blankets. A few special teams will work on more highly skilled jobs, like adding insulation or replacing light fixtures.
Last year the first-ever Energy Team visited 30 homes for the Albany- Berkeley- Emeryville chapter and implemented over 150 energy & water conservation measures, saving an average of $60 a year for each homeowner. This year we're working with SIX different Christmas in April affiliates - Albany- Berkeley- Emeryville- Oakland (50 homes), Castro Valley (18 homes), Marin County (12 homes), Mid-Peninsula (60 homes), San Francisco (65 homes) and South Bay (30 homes). Our goals are to visit more than 200 homes, apply over 1000 energy & water conservation measures, and save $12,000 annually in utility bills.
If you're not familiar with energy efficiency measures, this is a great opportunity to learn - and afterwards apply what you've learned to your own house. All volunteers will be given hands-on training before the event day.
If you've been working in energy efficiency for a long time, come give us your expertise and get some hands-on practice. You may also consider becoming an Energy Team Captain - in charge of organizing volunteers, training and event day logistics.
I'm also looking for donations of energy conservation materials. Last year I collected over $3000 worth of materials from RSA Corporation, Convenience Products, the City of Berkeley, and the East Bay Municipal Utility District. This year we'll need 6 times the materials in order to reach our goals!
For more details about volunteering and to see a list of the materials we need, please check out the Energy Team website: www.pstvnrg/xina Then contact Lisa Gartland at lisa@pstvnrg.com to sign up as an Energy Team 2000 volunteer or Energy Team Captain or to donate energy conservation materials.
Please also forward this message to your colleagues, friends and family!
Sincerely,
Lisa
