Description: Geography 171 is a basic course in geographic analysis. It addresses the analysis of spatial distributions using maps and geographic information systems. Specific objectives are:
  1. Develop your ability to read and interpret maps and GIS displays.
  2. Develop your ability to measure and analyze spatial data, both two-dimensional and three-dimensional.
  3. Develop your ability to apply quantitative approaches to analyzing geographic data.
  4. Develop your ability to solve problems.

The course will involve a combination of lectures, discussions, and laboratory exercises. You should read the assigned sections of the textbook prior to the week in which they are discussed. The lectures/discussions will expand on the materials in the text.

Discussions will involve all members of the class. However, you will not be evaluated on participation.
