Geog 1Geography of Natural Environments
Atmospheric, biologic, and geologic processes that create the world's natural environments. Discovery of local, regional, and global patterns in the location and distribution of environmental phenomena, and the human modification of natural environments.
Lecture 3 hours. 3 units.
Geog 10Cultural Geography
Local, regional, and global cultural landscapes. Geography of settlements, land use, economics, languages, religions, politics, health, foods, and popular culture.
Lecture 3 hours. 3 units.
General Upper Division Courses
Note: Upper division standing or instructor consent is a prerequisite to all upper division courses.
Geog 101Global Geography
Comparative geography of our world: regions and countries, natural environments and resources, settlements and land use, cultural diversity, and economic and political patterns.
Lecture 3 hours. Prerequisite: Upper division standing and pass SJSU Writing Skills Test. 3 units.
Geog 100WWriting Workshop
Development of skills required for geographical resarch and writing.
Lecture 3 hours. Upper division standing, pass SJSU Writing Skills Test, pass ENGL 1B (with grade of C or better), and completion of core GE. 3 units.
Geog 180Individual Studies
Student-initiated in-depth study of a mutually agreeable topic conducted under faculty guidance.
Prerequisite: Supervisor and department chair approval. CR/NC grading. Repeatable for credit. 1-4 units.
Geog 197Geography Internship
Work/activity with professional application in off-campus establishment or agency. Course requirements and units determined in consultation with faculty advisor and work/activity supervisor.
Prerequisite: 12 units geography. CR/NC grading. Repeatable for credit. 1-6 units.
Geog 199Senior Seminar
Capstone course examining the history of geographic thought and themes with emphasis on critical assessment of issues affecting current trends; objective of placing undergraduate experience in a professional context.
Prerequisite: Senior standing in geography. 3 units.
