International StudentsInternational Students in the SJSU IT Program
Students who are not U.S. citizens and whose previous education has been wholly or partially in a foreign country may apply for admission by filing the California State University system wide application for admission. See our "Fast Track" page for instructions:

http://www.sjsu.edu/depts/it/fast.html

U.S. Government Regulations Pertaining to F-1 Visa
To be eligible for an F-1 Student Visa you must first apply to San Jose State University.

The US government provides a limited number of student (F-1 and M-1) visas each year to full-time students and full-time vocational students pursuing course work leading to a degree. In order to qualify you must be:

1. accepted at SJSU
2. enrolled as a full-time student
3. demonstrate a working knowledge of English
4. show evidence of sufficient monetary resources to study full-time
5. intend to return home upon completion of your studies.

Check your visa status online by visiting:
https://egov.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/cris/jsps/index.jsp?textFlag=N

Once you have been admitted to San Jose State University you will be given a 13-character application receipt number. Go to this web site: https://egov.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/cris/jsps/index.jsp?textFlag=N

Follow these instructions:
Click on: Case Status Online.
Enter your 13 character application number (omit any dashes) provided by SJSU.
Press Enter

English Language Requirements
All applicants whose native language is not English regardless of citizenship status will be required to have a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 550 (graduate) or 213 (electronic version) to be considered eligible for admission to the University. This requirement may be satisfied if you have three years of secondary or higher education in an English language school in a country where English is the first language.

SJSU CampusFinances
SJSU does not have any financial assistance for foreign students, nor is permission to work easy to get for foreign students; in fact, it is impossible to get permission during your first year in the U.S. All applicants must complete the "Declaration of Finances" and have their sponsor sign it and attach the appropriate bank statements indicating the amount of funds available.

The U.S. Consul in your home country will not issue a visa until he/she is convinced that you have adequate financial resources and will continue to receive funds throughout your entire study period in the U.S. Therefore, it is necessary that ample evidence of your financial resources be sent with your application.

The estimated cost for two semesters and one year living expenses is as follows:
Tuition* (30 units at $246 per unit) $7,380
Registration Fees* $1,724

In addition to the tuition and registration fees, you must include in your budget, books and supplies, room and board, and personal expenses. The average costs for these expenditures will vary depending on the type of arrangements made by you. Minimum required for issue of I-20: $14,500 for one year. Tuition and fees are subject to change by the California State University without advance notice.
