Master's Degree Program

The Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technology is a broad-based program designed to improve the candidate's competence in providing leadership for improving learning and teaching through the coordinated use of human resources, instructional materials, and technology.

Basic Requirements

Students entering the Program must possess basic competency in media selection, production and utilization as required for advanced work in Instructional Technology. Students should plan with advisors to determine necessary prerequisites.

Six Areas of Specialization Within the Master's Program

Course Pattern

The approved program will be individually designed in terms of the specific objectives of each student. It will take into consideration the nature of the student's undergraduate work and any postgraduate work that may have been completed, as well as any professional and related occupational experience. Generally, competence areas will include:

Broad professional base. Selected with advisor (3-9 Units)

Foundations of Professional Education

Curriculum Development and Instructional Design

Research and Evaluation

Program Courses. Selected with an advisor to meet career objectives. (12-15 Units)

Field Work or Practicum. (3 Units)

PLAN A (with thesis) or PLAN B (without thesis) (3 Units)
Candidates with advisor's approval, plan and complete either a thesis or an approved seminar paper or project concurrently with EDIT 270, Instructional Technology Seminar.

Approved electives. Selected with advisor to complete 30-unit total program.

Comprehensive Examination.
The written examination is taken toward the end of the semester in which the candidate expects to graduate.

English Proficiency.
All students are required to demonstrate competency in written English.
