Contribute to SJSU's Jewish Studies Program
SJSU’s Jewish Studies Program is poised now to become a center of Jewish learning for the South Bay. The university is fully committed to the program; the Jewish Studies advisory board is strong and diverse; collaborative work is thriving between Hillel of Silicon Valley and the Jewish Studies program; and the community members are showing their support by taking courses, attending Jewish Studies programs, and offering philanthropic gifts and resources.
Your generosity makes many good things possible:
New courses:
As we offer new courses--History of Anti-Semitism this fall and “Curtain Up on Cultural Judaism: Secularization through Popular Arts and Leisure” this spring--the Jewish Studies Program commits to start-up funding. Thanks to a grant from Eda and Joseph Pell, as well as gifts from many members of our community, we are able to fund these new courses.
Hebrew education:
Jewish Studies commits to supporting Hebrew language instruction as vital for a strong Jewish Studies education. The Hebrew program is partially funded by grants from Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley, Temple Emanu-El's Rabbi Gitin Memorial Fund, and gifts from community members.
Library:
The Jewish Studies Program has received an excellent library of over 1000 books from retiring Rabbi Steven Kaplan. We gratefully accept donations of gently used Jewish texts in all fields of study.
You make a difference!
Community support is very much appreciated. Thanks in part to challenge grants by Eli Reinhard, community supporters have given generously over the past several years. This year especially, amid catastrophic financial times, you sustain Jewish Studies courses and programming.
We are an agency of the SJSU Tower Foundation, a 501c3. Please send checks or credit card donations to the Tower Foundation, One Washington Square, San Jose, CA 95192. Please specify the Jewish Studies Program in a note accompanying your gift. |
