Dr. Peter Chua, Associate Professor


Peter Chua, Ph.D. is associate professor of sociology at the San José State University, San José CA, USA. He published numerous studies, has first-hand research experience of the Philippines, Thailand, and India, and has presented his research in South Africa, Australia, and the USA. He is an elected board member of the Research Committee on Social Transformation and the Sociology of Development for the International Sociological Association. He is an engaged member of global grassroots organizations campaigning on human rights and economic justice in the Third World.

        This project examines the ways that the production, international distribution, and local advocacy of condoms maintain social inequalities involving gender, class, sexuality, ‘race,’ and nation-states. Archival and interview data collected in Bangkok (Thailand), Manila (Philippines), New Delhi (India), San Francisco (USA), and Washington, DC (USA)
