Academic Rambling

I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I remember San Jose from the trips my parents and I would take driving down to visit their friends in Sunnyvale and Mountain View. We would drive past what would seem like endless miles of farms and orchards.  We always came home with a bag full of apricots.   I can hardly believe the changes that have taken place during the last half of this century.  The idea of San Jose as a part of “Silicon Valley” is quite a transformation for this once rural area.   My philosophy about living, learning and teaching is to view the world as a sociologist would.  I hope to make everyone understand the complex dynamics of race, culture, class, and gender in our world.  I try to tie the social, cultural and political changes in this valley and individual lives so that we can all see the relevance of our daily lives to the social structures within our society.

On a personal note, although everything I’ve written for this webpage is true, I don’t think you can believe everything and anything you read on the internet.
