CITY FACTS
Nottingham, England
Nottingham is widely recognized as one of the most exciting, vibrant
and lively cities outside of London. The architecture and culture are
balanced to display the old impressive Victorian heritage and historic
castles, with new, modern areas made for shopping, nightlife and the
student experience. Whether you are into sports, the arts, socializing
or the ultimate retail adventure, Nottingham can cater to everyone's
tastes. One of the advantages of living in Nottingham is the easy access
to other parts of the United Kingdom and beyond via road, rail, and
air links. Nottingham is less than two hours away from major cities
such as London, Birmingham, Leeds, and Manchester.
CAMPUS FACTS
Nottingham
Trent University
The Nottingham Trent University is a diverse and modern university.
As one of the largest universities in the UK, it attracts students from
across the world and has a total student population of over 25,000 -
made up of around 20,000 undergraduates and 5,000 postgraduates. Special
bus service runs approximately every 10 minutes between the City and
Clifton campus sites and stops at many points along the way. Nottingham
Trent has an excellent academic reputation and SJSU students can choose
from any of the high quality, and well-respected major options listed
above. Many of the subjects offered at Nottingham Trent have been ranked
within the top 10 - 20 in the UK. The £13 million Boots Library,
the Language laboratory, and 24-hour computer centers provide a variety
of resources to facilitate academic success. In addition, special student
support units are available to help and advise students with any problems,
while social life is catered for by the sports, clubs, and entertainment
offered by the Union of Students. Student accommodations are also high
quality, secure and centrally located.

Academic Program
The academic calendar consists of two fifteen-week semesters and then
a week of final exams for each term. Units and grading are based on
the U.K. system, but these will be translated to SJSU equivalencies
upon return from the program. SJSU students must take 40-60 U.K. credits
(equal to 12-18 SJSU units) and choose modules (courses) that correspond
to the appropriate level for their degree. Academic assessments are
specific to subject areas but can include essays, examinations, course
work and module notebooks. For some courses 70-100% of the assessment
may be based on the final examination.
Some of the course offerings include:

Internships/Work
Students may participate in internships while studying in Nottingham.
The exchange program does not have formalized internship programs, but
the university can provide support with internship placements or students
can arrange their own internship.
Accommodations
University residences offer students a variety of single room, self-catering
housing options on or near the campus. Self-catering means students
share well-equipped kitchen/dinning room facilities in each flat and
a common room is on site. A single room in a university managed flat
is another good option and typically provides 6-bed units with shared
facilities in houses or flats. All units are centrally heated. Students
have their own furnished room that has a secure lock.
