Inga Poslitur was born and raised in Sochi, Russia. Contrary to the popular belief, the climate was warm, and no bears were spotted in the city. One day she watched her friend painting in watercolors and instantly was inspired to follow that career. She enrolled at Sochi’s Fine Arts School to learn the basics in painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking. After graduation, she was accepted at the Academy of Applied Arts in Moscow, from where she graduated in 1989.
After coming to the United States in 1990, Professor Poslitur worked as a professional illustrator and participated in prestigious art competitions and exhibitions. In 2009, she graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York with a BFA in Illustration, top honors, and a Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. In 2012, she graduated from the University of Hartford, CT, with an MFA in Illustration.
Professor Poslitur's illustrations have been published in The New York Times, Newsday, New York Spirit, Ins and Outs, Hadassah, Stocks and Commodities, McSweeney’s, and HOW Magazine. Her paintings have been exhibited at the National Watercolor Society, Salmagundi Club, National Arts Club, and Fashion Institute of Technology. Numerous private collectors in the United States and abroad also enjoy her works.
