Briggs graduated in 1982 from University of the Arts with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Design. Her product design interest came from the desire to create better interaction with the environment and every-day objects. Upon graduation, she immediately opened her own industrial design firm, The Design Works, with two other partners in Philadelphia. Medical equipment, computers, and electronics as well as toys were just some of the successful products designed over the course of eleven years. After ending her business in the early 1990s, Briggs moved to Silicon Valley and became an art director developing complete graphic communication systems for some of the largest computer trade shows and conferences in the industry. During this time she decided to further her education by gaining a Certificate in Marketing with distinction from UC Berkeley. Briggs also worked in the software industry as the Director of Global Marketing Communications for Symantec Corporation. She drove the major initiatives for the consumer and small business segments, including a complete packaging re-design for the Norton product line and the centralization of advertising for the company. Global advertising under her direction won Icon and Effie awards for its unique and compelling approach.
