John is a designer and educator with over 45 years experience in the design world. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Design from California State University at Long Beach. He retired in 2012 from Hewlett Packard where he held the position of Director of Design leading a number of business unit design organizations. In his last position, he led the design functions in nine geographies with five principal design studios comprised of 160+ employees world-wide. The team defined and delivered end-to-end customer experiences and solutions, which included hardware, software and the web businesses. He has built the talent and skills required to drive a world class design delivery system and has build stakeholder and customer engagement structures to drive a consistent customer experience of HP’s brand in the various market segments. The team under John’s leadership achieved recognition in the form of major prestigious national and international design awards.
Previous to HP, John was the Director of Design for Compaq Computers Corporation and Tandem Computers. John formed and led three different design consultancies providing design consulting services for companies such as AT&T, Olivetti and Sony.
