Andrew Ballard is based in Foster + Partners’ Cupertino office and currently focuses on the Theater in Apple Campus 2. Before joining Foster + Partners in 2012 Andrew contributed his haptic sensibility and digital expertise to several residential and commercial projects in concept and construction at Fernau & Hartman Architects in Berkeley and recently taught an undergraduate design studio at UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design.
Andrew graduated Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University, earning the Shapiro Prize for Academic Excellence and the Frederick Barnard White Prize in Architecture. He attended UC Berkeley’s M.Arch. program, receiving the AIA Certificate of Merit. Andrew traveled extensively as a graduate student, studying in Rome under a Rotary International Fellowship, touring Europe under the Field Paoli Fellowship, and navigating Asia, Europe, and Latin America under the John K. Branner Fellowship. He interspersed field research into the urban environment with internships at Behnisch Architekten (Germany), Maki & Associates (Japan), Aranda + Lasch Architects (New York), Mazzanti Arquitectos (Colombia), and Vastu Shilpa Consultants (India). Whenever he has the opportunity Andrew is an avid dry-stack stone waller in his native North Carolina.
