Interior design study abroad

The Interior Design Program at SJSU also frequently sponsors study abroad seminars. In the last 5 years students have visited Japan, Italy and China and we intend to keep offering a wonderful selection of opportunities for students to experience design culture in other parts of the world.

Contemporary Dutch Design: Study Abroad in the Netherlands

Amsterdam, NL: July 19 - July 28, 2013
Studio at SJSU: July 29 - Aug 2, 2013

This three-week summer study abroad course will expose students to the Dutch product design, interior design, architecture, landscape design, and master planning that has occurred in the Netherlands over the last 20 years.

Almost no other country can boast such a high density of extraordinary interiors, buildings and urban ensembles on such a small surface area constructed over such a short amount of time by so many young and innovative archi- tects. Creativity, pragmatism, technology, artificial land- scapes, and living with water are among the key elements that have influenced their work.

Each day students will bicycle to visit new towns, buildings and their interiors by designers such as OMA/Rem Koolhaas, MVRDV, i29, Petra Blaise, West 8, Renzo Piano, Neutelings Riedijk, UN Studio, SANAA, de ArchitectenCie, David Chipperfield, Will Alsop, Mecanoo, Wiel Arets, and Enric Miralles, among others. The class will visit between three and ten projects per day.
