Early Start

 


The California State University’s Early Start Program is required for incoming students who score below 50 on the Entry Level Math (ELM) exam and/or score below 138 on the English Placement Test (EPT).The Disability Resource Center (DRC) collaborates with the Early Start Program and SJSU Testing Office to provide accommodations for the Early Start Program, including the administration of the EPT/ELM to students registered with the DRC who have a documented disability. 

Students should select from the following options as soon as possible:

 Option 1

You will take the EPT/ELM at SJSU, attend Early Start at SJSU, and be a freshman at SJSU in Fall 2013

Registering with the DRC & EPT/ELM Accommodations

  1. Contact the DRC office at 408.924.6000 to schedule a 1 hour appointment for at least one month prior to the exam date.

  2. Prior to your appointment pay for the EPT/ELM.

  3. Arrive 15 minutes early to your scheduled appointment with the DRC, arrive prepared by bringing:

    a.      Proof of EPT/ELM payment

    b.      Appropriate documentation about disability

Early Start

  1. Attend first day of Early Start class

  2. Obtain syllabus for each course

  3. Meet with a DRC counselor to request accommodations for Early Start course:  

    a.      Bring a printed copy of Early Start Syllabi for English and/or Math course.  Accommodations will not be prescribed without syllabi.  

  4. When Early Start ends contact DRC to Schedule an appointment with a DRC counselor for Fall.

Fall

  1. Attend first day of class for all registered courses.

  2. Obtain syllabus for each course.

  3. Attend scheduled appointment  with a DRC counselor to request accommodations:

    a.       Bring printed copies of ALL syllabi with you, including course syllabi only available online. Accommodations WILL NOT be prescribed without syllabi.

 

 

Option 2

You will take the EPT/ELM at SJSU and attend Early Start at SJSU
