eCampus is the department at SJSU that administers the online and web-supplemented courses at SJSU which use Blackboard CE8. This learning management software is an upgrade of WebCT CE 4 and CE 6, and is now known as Blackboard CE8. The following information will help you make a great start this term.

Need Help?

SJSU has an excellent student Help Desk for your support. Student tech support issues/questions are mostly one of the following types:

• Passwords -- Easily re-set by contacting the Help Desk Monday-Friday. 8am-4:45pm at 924-2377 or submitting a help ticket using the University Help Desk online form. You can also visit the Help Desk, located on first floor of Clark Hall.
  
  
• Problems uploading assignments -- this is a recent issue where the icon doesn't show up in Blackboard that allows you to browse for your file on your computer. IF you experience this problem trying to upload an assignment in your course, download the tutorial How to fix downloading issue in Blackboard CE8 (PDF).
  
  
• Courses you are enrolled in aren't showing up in Blackboard -- first, not all instructors use Blackboard so contact him/her and verify you will be using Blackboard. Second, enrolled students are not granted access until 12:01 am of the first date of instruction of the term (or the scheduled start date of a special session course). If you are an enrolled student and on the first date of instruction the link to your course isn't showing up, email or speak with your instructor to make sure you are in her/his mySJSU roster or if there is another issue. Some instructors don't immediately set up a course but do so later. Ask. If you are supposed to see it but the link doesn't appear for more than a day or so call Help Desk and he/she will create a ticket for us to investigate.
  
  
• How does Blackboard work? Each instructor may use Blackboard differently, may or may not use different tools, etc. Many will have a "Start Here" file on the home page of the course that explains how they will use Blackboard and provide simple instructions to get you familiar with the course. One VERY useful strategy is to find a partner to work with -- at the very least to get started. It will make is much easier (two heads are better than one!) and starts to build a network for your success. (It will likely impress your instructor as well!)

Please remember: ALL student tech support requests must go through the Help Desk -- do not contact eCampus directly. Help Desk can solve 99% of all issues, and if they can't solve your issue they will create a "ticket" that comes to eCampus. This system creates an efficient and fair way to assist you in the order in which the tickets come in.

How to Log Into Your Course

STEP ONE: To login to any or all of your courses, go to the following site: http://sjsu6.blackboard.com

STEP TWO: Enter your User name and Password.

User Name: 9 digit SJSU ID, same as your Tower or mySJSU ID.
Password: Your first term on Blackboard the password is set to the current term, e.g "fall" or "summer" or "spring" or "winter" (in lower case). Passwords are not re-set each term, however, so if you have not changed your password, try each one. If you have changed your password previously, continue to use it. If you cannot remember your password contact the Help Desk at 924-2377 or helpdesk@sjsu.edu.

STEP THREE: Change your Password and Set up Security Settings.

When you first log in, you will see a list of your courses in the center of the page. (See example below.)



On the top right side of the page, click on the link called "My Settings".



Check to see if your email address is correct. If not, click on "Edit Profile."


Enter the correct email address and fill in what you want to share about yourself, upload a small photo if you want, etc.
When finished, click "Save".


Next, you should change your password and edit your security settings. Click on "Change Password".



Enter your current password, then your new password two times. You should also create your
Secret Question and Secret Answer. By creating this question and answer, the system will then allow you
to change your password. If you forget your password and can answer the secret question correctly the system will re-set your password and send it to you to the email address you have listed. When finished, click "Save".



You can now click on the My BlackBoard tab in the upper left part of the screen to return to the view of all your CE 8 courses. To enter a course, click on the hyperlinked title and you'll be taken right to the homepage of the course. Good luck and have a great term!
