Pedagogy & Technology
Part of the San José State mission is to leverage the power of technology
to enhance the quality of instruction. The following SJSU units and departments
specifically meet the needs of our faculty as they use technology as an instructional
tool. Many of these services, although not all, are also available for staff
and students. Although there is some overlap between the services offered each
unit has been established to meet a specific technical need. Based on the descriptions
below use the links to each unit's site to obtain specific information about
services and resources or to obtain general contact information.
Academic Technology, Department of
The Department of Academic Technology has numerous units that deal with different
types of technologies and technical requests.
- Academic Technology Network (ATN) - The Academic Technology
Network(ATN) is the distance education group in the Media Production and Delivery
Unit. ATN has three major technologies available for delivery of programming:
- Broadcast Classes
- Videoconferencing
- Streaming Media
- Center for Faculty Development
CFD operates the faculty lab on the 2nd floor of IRC, offers faculty workshops,
brownbag and other training opportunites, has one-on-one instructional design
assistance for faculty web pages and online course materials and offers opportunities
for professional development for all faculty. The Center's goal is to advance
curriculum, pedagogy and technology to enhance instruction; encourage scholarly
inquiry into college teaching and learning; and enhance faculty careers.
- IT Support Services - ITSS is the
primary central technical support resource for SJSU students, staff, and faculty
for computing-related questions and problems. ITSS assists users in troubleshooting
problems with common desktop operating systems, with software/hardware conflicts,
and with configuring and employing selected desktop software packages.
- Media Production & Delivery - Media Production and
Delivery is a unit of Academic Technology, Media Production and Delivery combines
media production, distance education (the Academic Technology Network), and
media delivery services, providing comprehensive support for media based instruction.
Services include program design and scripting; complete photography services;
audio, video and multimedia production; classrooms designed for televised
instruction; two way videoconferencing throughout California and with anywhere
in the world; an extensive video library and campus video playback system;
satellite programming reception, tape duplication; and instructional technology
and media engineering consultation.
- Media Services - Media Services is located
on the first floor of IRC and is responsible for the video catalog, AV equipment
checkout, and media facilities.
- Web Services Unit - Functioning as the on-campus
web design and development group and managed by the University Webmaster,
the Web Services Unit is part of the Department of Academic Technology and
exists as a resource and consultant-base for the entire campus.
- Wireless Laptop Pilot Project - San José
State University’s Wireless Laptop Pilot Project is committed to creating
a dynamic and collaborative educational environment that enhances teaching
and learning, creativity, scholarship and global connectivity through a wireless
laptop initiative.
eCampus
SJSU's eCampus utilizes WebCT and is responsible for the delivery of online
classes and content. Instructional design assistance for the development of
online courses is also available.
Web Publishing @ SJSU
Information pertaining to web publishing at SJSU, specific information about
the university's web template, best practices, support, etc. is all available.
University Helpdesk
Operated by IT Support Services (ITSS), a unit of the Department of Academic
Technology, the helpdesk provides front line IT support to Faculty, Staff and
Students of the university in a variety of areas. We are the first point of
contact for information and support on campus.
