| The San Jose State University Connie L. Lurie College of Education Alumni Board believes that teachers make a difference in everyone's life. Those "special teachers" who helped children to learn how to read and write, praised efforts and helped build character, are often the unsung heroes of our community. The Alumni Board also believes that teachers should be recognized for their hard work, dedication, commitment, and ability to impact the lives around them. A reception in their honor is hosted by the Alumni Board each spring at the One-Room Schoolhouse at History San Jose at Kelly Park. The Honoring a Teacher Program was started in 1998. Honored Teachers are nominated by those whose lives they touch; a plague in their honor is placed on display in the Gallery of the One-Room Schoolhouse. Teachers can also be honored through the naming of a schooldesk. |
