Supporting the Connie L. Lurie
College of Education


There are many ways to support the Connie L. Lurie College of Education, including direct and planned gifts, establishing endowments, and memorial contributions. The College is particularly committed to programs and initiatives that support the vision and mission of equity and excellence in education. Special Development Initiatives
The Connie L. Lurie College of Education celebrates excellence and equity in many different ways, including the creation of meaningful endowments and accounts that provoke critical conversation, celebrate student achievement, and remember important individuals in the education community. The College maintains a comprehensive listing of accounts in the Office of the Dean, but here are several:
Elaine Anderson Memorial Scholarship Fund
Celebrating the life and work of Professor Elaine Anderson in the Department of Counselor Education, this scholarship fund was established through a generous gift from Paul N. Anderson. The fund provides scholarship support to students pursuing their master's degree or counseling licensure through the Department.
Kay Armstead Memorial Scholarship Fund
A memorial fund established to honor the work of Kay Armstead, the founder of the San Jose State University Center for Communication Disorders. This community-based Center provides accessible, affordable rehabilitative services for those living in San Jose. The scholarship fund in her name is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student in the Department of Communicative Disorders.
Susan Meyers Faculty Award Endowment
In her first month as the new Dean of the Connie L. Lurie College of Education, Dr. Susan Meyers established an endowment to fund the work and professional development of College faculty. The award is granted annually to a deserving faculty member.
Francis Villemain Distinguished Lecture Series Endowment
This fund celebrates democracy the moral life through an annual lecture. Past distinguished lecturers include the Hoover Institute's John H. Bunzel, Donald Arnstine of the University of California at Davis, Nel Noddings and Emon Callan of Stanford University, and Ann Diller of the University of New Hampshire. Francis Villemain, a Teachers College graduate, was Dean of the College of Education at San Jose State University from 1975-1982, and was a founding member of the highly regarded journal Studies in Philosophy and Education.
