The Connie L. Lurie College of Education, as a community of scholars and practitioners, believes firmly in the need for broad-based, inclusive college governance. This belief is actualized in the use of eight standing College committees, and numerous ad hoc committees that are formed and used throughout an academic year. The following committee descriptions provide an overview of the operation of the College, and can be used in referring various issues and topics to the faculty of the College.
Alumni & External Affairs Committee
The purpose of this committee is to work with the Connie L. Lurie College of Education Alumni Society to advance the interests of the College and to work to enhance the image of the College both on and off the San Jose State University campus.
College Personnel Committee
This committee oversees the College's participation in retention, tenure, and promotion activities, making specific recommendations on academic personnel actions to the College Dean and University community.
College Coordinating Council
This Council, comprised of each committee's chairperson, was designed to enhance communication and collaboration among faculty and staff governance entitities in the College. The Council provides a forum for faculty and staff who have assumed leadership positions in the College to promote equity and excellence by providing information related to the activities of College committees in an effort to enhance coordination across committees and to present issues that relate to the governance of the College towards ensuring a collegial learning community.
Curriculum Committe
The purpose of the Curriculum Committee is to provide a forum for faculty, administrators, and students in which discussion and decision-making shall take place on the content, design, delivery, and evaluation of the curriculum.
Management Council
The Management Council is a forum for all regular staff in the College to meet, share information, and engage in meaningful professional development. These professionals have various responsibilities within the College, and collectively work to support the mission, values, and purpose of the College.
Equity Advocacy and Policy Committee
The purpose of this committee is to promote cultural diversity, equity, social justice, and excellence; to honor educators promoting multiculturalism; and to enhance life-long learning from a perspective of equity, cultural diversity, social justice, and excellence.
Research, Scholarship, & Special Projects Committee
The purpose of this committee is to promote an intellectual community of scholars, encourage and support professional development activities in the College; encourage and support faculty scholarship; coordinate the distribution of University Lottery funding, and handle, coordinate, and supervise special projects for the College that add to the overall purpose of the Committee.
Staff Council
The Staff Council is a forum for all departmental and regular staff in the College to meet, share information, and engage in meaningful professional development. The Council meets monthly and is coordinated by a group of elected peers who comprise the Staff Leadership Council.
Technology Committee
The purpose of the Technology Committee is to provide leadership in the areas of technology and distributed education and to recommend policy and practices to the Connie L. Lurie College of Education faculty and administration that promote excellence in education for students, faculty, staff, and administration.
