California law requires that all teachers pass a course in the U.S. Constitution before being issued a credential. This requirement can be fulfilled by taking an approved college level course(s) or by passing an approved exam. Below is a list of courses that satisfy this requirement:
| Course Name | Course Description |
|---|---|
American History & Government |
|
| College | Course |
|---|---|
If you have taken a course at another institution that you believe satisfies the requirement but is not listed please do the following:
1) Obtain a course description (preferably a course syllabus) from the college where the course was taken.
2) Present the course description and official transcript to the Credentials Office (Sweeney Hall #107) for written verfication that it meets the U.S. Constitution requirement.
NOTE: Please ensure that the course description specifically mentions the U.S. Constitution otherwise you will need to take another course or test. You may also satisfy this requirement by passing a test on the U.S. Constitution. Contact the San Jose State Testing Office at: 408-924-5980 for information about this exam.
