The 2011 Arts Really Teach Conference

The third annual Marion Cilker Conference for the Arts in Education (the “Arts Really Teach” Conference) will be held on Nov. 18th and 19th, 2011.  The event co-sponsored by the Connie L. Lurie College of Education at San José State University and the Santa Clara County Office of Education will bring together local arts organizations and talented classroom teachers to present workshops in all areas of the arts (e.g., dance, theater, music, puppetry, and fine arts). Participants will have the opportunity to attend two 90-minute workshops that demonstrate hands-on ways to incorporate arts education into the standard Pre-K through sixth grade classroom curriculum. 

The grant from Marion Cilker allows teachers from Santa Clara County Title I schools and San Jose Staté students interested in education to attend the conference at low cost.  Local arts organizations like TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT), Axis Dance Company, KQED, and the San Francisco Opera will be sharing their expertise through activity-based workshops. And on Saturday, Nov. 19th there also will be an “Arts Expo” where non-profit arts organizations will share their resources for students and educators.  Space is limited – so register right away …

 

Registration Information:

  • Friday, Nov. 18th – 8:00 am to 1:30 pm (on the SJSU campus) is the conference day for San Jose State students.  SJSU students can register for FREE.  Here is the link: http://santaclara.k12oms.org/1050-51407
  • Saturday, Nov. 19th – 7:30 am to 12:45 pm (at the Santa Clara Co. Office of Education) is the conference day for Pre-K to 6th grade teachers, parents, and interested community members.  Teachers from Santa Clara Co. Title I schools can register for $10.  The registration fee for all others is $40.  Continuing Education Units are available through SJSU (for an additional fee of $30 for 0.5 units).  Follow this link to sign up: http://santaclara.k12oms.org/1050-51425


Save the Date for Next Year’s Conference…

The fourth annual Marion Cilker Conference for the Arts in Education will be held on Nov. 16th and 17th, 2012 (at San Jose Staté University and the Santa Clara County Office of Education).  It will be an exciting two days of workshops and wonderful learning opportunities in all areas of the arts.  Please save the date – and plan to attend!
