STEM Teacher Institute

 

The SJSU Lurie College of Education has established local partnerships to create summer opportunities for SJSU students and recent graduates to develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities to teach math and/or computer science in an effort to pursue educational equity and social justice by reducing STEM barriers in education.  Learn more about Department of Teacher Education alumni Robyn Riedstra's experience in the 2019 program above!

 

Job Opening: STEM+C Institute Coordinator


The Lurie College of Education at San Jose State University seeks an experienced individual to coordinate the Stem+C Future Teacher Institute which will be held in summer 2020.  The 2020 institute will build on the success of the STEM Teacher Institutes piloted with great success in 2019. These institutes are grounded in an educational equity foundation; they are built on the recognition that access for all K-12 student to high quality STEM+C learning experiences is a social justice issue. The coordinator will be expected to lead the institute with a social justice orientation, provide on-site and online support, and assist with data collection.  Read more about the coordinator role below and apply by Friday, October 11, 2019!

 

 


2019 Math Teacher Institute | May 27 - July 19


Attendees will complete a math methods course, participate in hands on math content instruction, and may complete field experience through a math summer enrichment program.  As a result, attendees will:

  • Improve their content knowledge and employability
  • Receive 3 credits at no cost and field experience
  • Earn a Lurie College Math Education Badge
  • Potentially earn a $2000 stipend

2019 Comp. Sci. Course | June 17-21 or July 29-Aug 2


Thanks to the generous support of Microsoft, attendees can complete a 4.5 day computer science crash course for only $95 (fee waiver available).  As a result, attendees will:

  • Develop a foundation in computer science skills
  • Network with experienced middle school teachers
