FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions Q. What is APEX? APEX is an accelerated credential program for candidates planning to teach as interns while working toward a credential. This program will enable successful candidates to complete coursework for the Preliminary Multiple Subject CLAD credential in approximately twelve months. Q. Who qualifies for APEX? Candidates who are currently teaching in a public school district using an intern credential. Q. How do I get started? First call the Elementary Education office at (408) 924-3771 to find out when the next Advisement Session will be taking place and make an appointment with an Admissions Advisor. Then, attend the Advisement Session. See Credentials, which lists all documents needed for applying to the Graduate School of SJSU and the APEX program. Have an interview with Jan Grodeon, at which time you will go over all documentation and applications for the credential program. Once accepted into the Elementary Education Department, contact the APEX Coordinator, Judith Schierling at jschierl@email.sjsu.edu, to set up an APEX interview. Q. Where and when will classes be held? Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 to 9:50 p.m at SJSU. Q. Is there an application fee? Yes, there is a $55 fee for applying to San Jose State University Graduate School, and a $25 processing fee for applying to the College of Education Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program. Q.
