Back to Multiple Subject Credential
Program Options
FLEXIBLE
The Flexible Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program may be started in the fall or spring semesters and may be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. Student teaching placements are possible in public schools in Santa Clara County, and, on a limited basis, in Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties.
BILINGUAL
The BCLAD Spanish Program is available to candidates wishing to teach in a bilingual classroom. Applicants are required to demonstrate competence by passing two examinations: (1) Spanish and (2) Latino Culture. All options except #2 below are open to these students.
INTERNSHIPS
The Teacher Education Collaborative Partial Internship Program (TE) is an accelerated one-year plus summer courses of concurrent university study and field practice. Students are in the classroom with a Master Teacher 3 days per week from first to last day of school and in seminars doing course work 2 full days per week. Students are placed in Campbell, Santa Clara, Oak Grove and San Mateo-Foster City School Districts.
The School-University Partnership Internship Program (SUP) is a two-year internship in which successful candidates are compensated for full-time classroom teaching while satisfying the requirements for the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with an optional Spanish BCLAD emphasis (available for interns who qualify). This option may be started only in the Fall semester with classes starting the summer prior.
CREDENTIAL & MA
The Critical Research Academy (CRA) begins in the Fall semester. This credential program is a combined Multiple Subject Credential and MA program with an Emphasis in Critical Research on Language, Culture, and Society. It offers a dynamic program for K-12 teachers primarily interested in education for social justice, development of cultural literacy, education to promote democracy, and pedagogy for teaching in urban schools. The program also incorporates requirements for both the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and the Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Curriculum & Instruction.
MIDDLE SCHOOL EMPHASIS
The Middle Level Emphasis Program (MLE) prepares students to teach grades 5-8 in a middle school or elementary setting with a multiple subject credential and additional authorization for teaching a single subject (introductory authorization or full single subject credential). Coursework emphasizes meeting the needs of the young adolescent. Student teaching placements are in Alum Rock, Campbell, Cupertino, Franklin McKinley, Gilroy, Mountain View-Whisman, & San Mateo-Foster City School Districts.
