Back to Admission Requirements

A. Main Admission Requirements

Bachelors Degree:

You must hold a baccalaureate degree, B.A. or B.S., from an accredited college or university. If you have a foreign degree, it must be equivalent to a four year U.S. baccalaureate degree. Click here for information about foreign transcript evaluation.

Minimum GPA:

The minimum GPA required for admissions to the program is 2.87 for the last 60 semester units (or last 90 quarter units) of your college work. If your GPA does not meet this minimum, you may request consideration for an exemption from this requirement by submitting a written justification to the Admissions Director in the Elementary Education Department. However, please note that San Jose State University, under no circumstance, admits students who have a GPA of less than 2.5 for last 60 semester units. If you hold a degree from a foreign country where there is no GPA grading scheme, your grades will be converted into GPA format.

CBEST:

Verification of passing the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) is required for admission to the program and enrollment in credential courses.
