Applying
to the MA Program
If you are interested in the combined program option,
you will need to apply through the Elementary Education Department
in SH 305. You will complete the credential coursework first and transfer
over as an MA student in your last semester of the credential program.
For more information regarding admission requirements, please attend a
Group Advisement Session provided by the Elementary Education Department
or download the Advisement Guide. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT THE MA APPLICATION.
MA “ONLY” PROGRAM OPTION:
CURRENT Students (in a Credential Program):
Students who are currently enrolled at SJSU in a Credential Program can
transfer into the MA Program by completing step 1 below and meeting with the MA program emphasis coordinator. If
a student is accepted to the MA Program a Program Transfer Form will be
submitted to Graduates Studies to reflect the change in objective.
NEW Students:
New students must apply to both the university and the MA program. These are separate applications, and admission to
one does not guarantee admission to the other. Please complete steps 1 & 2 below to be considered for acceptance into the MA “ONLY”
Program Option.
- Apply to the MA program.
Submit an application packet to the MA Program Office in SH 303, include
the following:
- Complete the Departmental Application and choose ONE Emphasis Option.
- Transcripts. Submit transcripts of all colleges attended. Unofficial Copies are okay for department file.
- Teaching Credential. Make a copy of your current teaching credential and submit it with your departmental application.
- 3 Letters of Reference. Please ask references to submit letters on official letterhead.
- Essay. Write your very best essay describing your educational and professional background, your philosophy of education, your experience with and thoughts about diversity, and your professional goals.
NOTE: You may drop off your application in Sweeney Hall 303 or mail it to:

- Apply to the university by submitting an online graduate application via www.csumentor.edu:
- Choose the following degree: Education-Curriculum & Instruction
- $55 application fee must be paid before application will be completely processed; the fee can be paid online or dropped off at the Student Services Center.
- Official Transcripts from all colleges attended other than SJSU must be submitted to:
