Emphasis Options
General MA in Curriculum & Instruction:
The MA in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) program is for credentialed teachers who want to improve their teaching practice in a variety of content areas or focus on a course of study outside of our existing program emphases (Critical Research, Literacy, or Science and Literacy). In consultation with a faculty advisor, individual students in this program will design a customized course of study, which will include educational curriculum, foundations, and research methods.

Academy for Critical Research on Language, Culture and Society (CRA): The Academy is designed to prepare educators who are competent and committed to the creation of educational contexts that promote social justice, develop culturally and linguistically appropriate curriculum, and explore social/political issues impacting public education. (Credential/MA Option Available)

Literacy Across the Curriculum for an Equitable Society (LACES): This emphasis offers a dynamic program for K-12 teachers interested in advocacy for social justice and equitable literacy learning and teaching in urban schools. The program also incorporates requirements for both the Reading Certificate and the Reading Language Arts Specialist Credential.

Science and Literacy Inquiry Academy (SLIA): This MA emphasis is for classroom teachers, resource teachers, or educators in alternative settings. Having a science major is not required, but interest in science and K-12 science is essential. Comfort using technology also is important. The emphasis options are:
