• Make a commitment. This is an intense, cohort-based program that includes summer sessions. So, it's important to consider what enrolling in the program will mean for you, your family, and your job.
• Consult with your administrators about your application, to make sure that they are supportive. Courses usually meet from 4:00-6:45 p.m. on school days.
• Consider enrolling with colleagues from your school who are also committed to the goals of this program. (Each person must complete his/her own application.)
• Complete the application form, as well as the application to the University, follow the steps below.
• Applicants should plan to attend an Interview/Orientation shorlty after the application deadline. Students will be notified by email.

CURRENT Students (in a Credential Program): Students who are currently enrolled at SJSU in a Credential Program can transfer into the MA Program by completing step 1 below and meeting with the MA program emphasis coordinator. If a student is accepted to the MA Program a Program Transfer Form will be submitted to Graduates Studies to reflect the change in objective.

NEW Students: New students must apply to both the university and the MA program. These are separate applications, and admission to one does not guarantee admission to the other. Please complete steps 1 & 2 below to be considered for acceptance into the MA Program.

STEP 1: Apply to the Elementary Education Department.

Your application should include the following:

1. Complete the MA Applicationand choose ONE Emphasis Option. (Application Instructions)
2. Transcripts - Submit transcripts of all colleges attended. Unofficial Copies are okay for department file.
3. Teaching Credential - Make a copy of your current teaching credential and submit it with your departmental application.
4. 3 Letters of Reference - Please ask references to submit letters on official letterhead.
5. Essay - Write your very best essay describing your educational and professional background, your philosophy of education, your experience with and thoughts about diversity, and your professional goals.

STEP 2: Apply to the University.

1. Submit an online graduate application via www.csumentor.edu.
2. Choose the following degree objective: Education-Curriculum & Instruction
3. $55 application fee must be paid before application will be completely processed; the fee can be paid online or dropped off at the Student Services Center.
4. Official Transcripts from all colleges attended other than SJSU must be submitted to:

San Jose State University
Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations (GAPE)
One Washington Square
San Jose, CA 95192-0017

NOTE: SJSU graduates do not need to submit transcripts to GAPE.
