Reading Certificate & Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential

The Reading Certificate and Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential Programs require a pre-requisite teaching credential. At the end of the program, candidates mus have a valid teaching credential and 3 years of teaching experience in order to apply for the Reading Certificate or Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential.

Application Requirements and Admission Process for the Reading Certificate and Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential are the same as the LACES MA program. Refer to the LACES home page for information about requirements, application process, and deadlines.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In September 2010, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing issued new standards for the Reading Certificate and Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential. We are in the process of revising our program so that it will conform to these new standards. We anticipate that our revised programs will be place by August 2012. One change in the standards involves name changes: The Reading Certificate will be known as the Reading and Literacy Added Authorization(RLAA) and the Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential will be known as the Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist Credential (RLLSC).
