EDEL 143A: Orientation to Student Teaching

Course Description:

• 5-unit, semester long class
• Class schedule is MWF, 8-12n (generally)
• 2 days at school site, 1 day in seminar
• Specific course assignments outlined in Field Experience Guide and addressed by supervisor in seminar
• Purpose: become familiar with duties/responsibilities of classroom teacher and begin to plan/teach small groups and whole class
• 1-2 placements per semester

Placements/Classroom Assignments:

• Based on availability
  In accordance with Elementary Education Department’s mission to provide student teachers with ethnic, social, linguistic and economic diversity.
• Dependent on SJSU arrangements with school districts and the optimal clustering of student teachers in districts and schools.
• Cannot be at school where your own children attend
• Master Teacher cannot not be related to you
• Subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control

Enrollment Instructions:

1. 143A Enrollment Forms must be submitted in person as you must sign-up for a 143A course section at that time.
2. Please plan to attend the MANDATORY Student Teacher Orientation on August 21, 2008, 4:00-7:00PM in SH 100.
3. Course code, Student Teacher Orientation details, and other pertinent information will be emailed to the email address provided to us on your enrollment form.

Enrollment Requirements:

1. 143A Enrollment Form
   
2. *CSET Scores (all 3 sections passed)
3. *Certificate of Clearance (C of C) or 30-day Substitute Permit
4. Special Education Agreement Form & Supplemental Questionaire (For Special Education Candidates ONLY)

* Multiple Subject Candidates - CSET and C of C will be verified via the Elementary Education Office in SH 305 before 143A enrollment is processed.

*Special Education Candidates - CSET and C of C must accompany 143A Enrollment Form and Special Education Agreement Form & Questionaire.
