Important Dates for MFA Students

Fall 2012 Semester

Sept. 14:       Deadline for December 2012 graduates to file for graduation or file graduation date change with the Graduate Studies Office.

Sept. 21       MFA Comprehensive Exam distributed (9 AM).

Sept. 24:       MFA Comprehensive Exam due (5 PM).

Sept. 30:       Deadline for December graduates to submit MFA and MA theses to second and third readers.

Oct. 1           Deadline for May 2012 graduates to file Departmental Request for Candidacy form.   

Oct. 29:        Deadline to submit thesis proposals for Spring 2013 299 credits to Department Graduate Committee (note—you do not need to wait to submit until the last day).

Nov. 1:         Deadline for December 2011 graduates to submit signed MA and MFA thesis to Graduate Studies Office.

Dec. 10:        Deadline for signing up to take the Spring 2012 MFA Comprehensive Exam. Recommended for May, August, and December 2012 MFA graduates.

Jan. 10:        Last day for December 2011 graduates to submit MA and MFA thesis copies for electronic publication (or embargoing).

 

Spring 2013 Semester 

Feb. 8:          Deadline for May 2012 graduates to submit thesis to second and third readers.

Feb. 10:        Deadline for August 2012 graduates to file Departmental Request for Candidacy form.

Feb. 15:        Deadline for May 2013 graduates to file for graduation or file graduation date change with the Graduate Studies Office.

Feb. 15 - 18:   MFA Comprehensive exam.

March 1:        Deadline for Fall 2013 MFA applications.

March 2:      Applications due for GA/TA positions in the English Department.

March 6 - 9:   AWP Annual Conference (Boston)

April 5:      Deadline for May 2013 graduates to submit signed thesis to Graduate Studies         Office.     

April 5:        Deadline for August 2013 graduates to submit request for candidacy form to Graduate Studies Office.

April 5:        Deadline to submit thesis proposals for Fall 2013 credits to Department Graduate Committee (note—you should not wait to submit until the last day).

April 18:      SJSU Legacy of Poetry Day.

May 11:       MFA Graduation (2:00 p.m., MLK Library).

June 14:       Deadline for May 2013 graduates to submit MA and MFA thesis copies for electronic publication (or embargoing).

July 1:          Deadline for August 2013 graduates to submit signed MFA thesis to Graduate Studies Office. 

Sept. 14:       Deadline for August 2013 graduates to submit MA and MFA thesis copies for electronic publication (or embargoing).
