Important Dates for MFA Students

2018-2019

April 1:  Deadline for applications for 2018-2019 GAships due to the Graduate Coordinator.

April 2:  Deadline for May 2018 graduates to submit signed theses to the Graduate Studies office.

April 2:  Thesis proposals for Fall 2018 299 credit due; to be submitted to the graduate committee take take 299 units in Fall 2018. (Recommended for students following the pre-2017 MFA thesis requirements, not enrolling in ENGL 291 in Fall 2018.)

April 2:  Deadline for December 2018 to submit their petitions for Candidacy to GAPE.

April 2:  Javier Zamora reading, Steinbeck Center, MLK Library, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., booksigning to follow. Free admisison.

April 12: Poetry Legacy Day reading, Hammer Theatre Lobby, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m., Celebrating the Poetry of Migration and Diaspora. Free admission.

April 12:  Peter Balakian reading and conversation with SJSU Pres. Mary Balakian, presented by the Center for Literary Arts, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

May 12:  MFA Reading, 2:30 - 5:00 p.m., MLK 225/229.

May 15:  Last day for sign-ups for the Fall 2018 MFA Exam.

June 11:  Last day for May 2018 graduates to submit approved MA and MFA theses for electronic publication. (Remember to select the “embargo” option.)

June 29:  Deadline for August 2018 graduates to submit approved theses to Graduate Studies.

Sept. 10:  Deadline for December 2018 graduates to file or reactivate application for graduation with GAPE.

Sept. 28:  MFA Comprehensive Exam distributed (9 AM).

Oct. 1:  MFA Comprehensive Exam due (5 PM).

Oct. 1:  Deadline for May 2019 graduates to file Departmental Request for Candidacy form.

Oct. 8:  Deadline for December 2018 graduates to submit MFA thesis completed draft to thesis committee members.

Oct. 26:  Deadline to submit thesis proposals for Spring 2019 credits to Grad Committee.

Nov. 5:  Deadline for December 2018 graduates to submit signed thesis for review by GS&R.
