Important Dates for MFA Students
Fall 2011 Semester
Sept. 14: Deadline for December 2011 graduates to file or reactivate application for graduation at the Graduate Studies Office.
Sept. 23: MFA Comprehensive Exam distributed (9 AM).
Sept. 26: MFA Comprehensive Exam due (5 PM).
Sept. 30: Deadline for December graduates to submit MFA and MA theses to second and third readers.
Sept. 30: Deadline for May 2012 graduates to file Departmental Request for Candidacy form.
Oct. 31: Deadline to submit thesis proposals for Spring 2012 299 credits to Department Graduate Committee (note—you do not need to wait to submit until the last day).
Oct. 31: Last day for December 2011 graduates to submit signed MA and MFA thesis to Graduate Studies Office.
Dec. 9: Deadline for signing up to take the Spring 2012 MFA Comprehensive Exam. Recommended for May, August, and December 2012 MFA graduates.
Jan. 13: Last day for December 2011 graduates to submit MA and MFA thesis copies for electronic publication (or embargoing).
Spring 2012 Semester
Feb. 1: Deadline for Fall 2012 MFA applications.
Feb. 10: Deadline for May 2012 graduates to submit thesis to second and third readers.
Feb. 12: Deadline for August 2012 graduates to file Departmental Request for Candidacy form.
Feb. 17 - 20: MFA Comprehensive exam.
Feb 29 - March 2: AWP Annual Conference (Chicago)
April 5: Last day for May 2012 graduates to submit signed MFA thesis to Graduate Studies Office.
April 5: Deadline to submit thesis proposals for Fall 2012 credits to Department Graduate Committee (note—you should not wait to submit until the last day).
April 19: SJSU Legacy of Poetry Day.
May 19: MFA Graduation (2:00 p.m., MLK Library).
June 15: Last day for May 2012 graduates to submit MA and MFA thesis copies for electronic publication (or embargoing).
July 1: Last day for August 2012 graduates to submit signed MFA thesis to Graduate Studies Office.
Sept. 15: Last day for August 2012 graduates to submit MA and MFA thesis copies for electronic publication (or embargoing).
