Help me! i Don't have enough money to pay for books, tuition and food!
- If your financial aid award does not cover all of your tuition, you can ask to be considered for a payment plan from the Bursar's Office
- Were you offered loans as part of your financial aid packet? If so, you should seriously consider this option. Loans can sometimes be scary, but school loans usually have a very low interest rate and you don't have to pay them back until after you graduate. To discuss further options of loans, please contact Anthony Bettencourt in the Financial Aid Office at anthony.bettencourt@sjsu.edu
Options for books:
- Try the SJSU Book Loan Program
- SJSU Library Website for Course Reserves
- General Information for Course Reserves for Students
- Book renting (cheaper than renting through Spartan Bookstore!)
Other loan options:
- Short-Term Loans: Loans of up to $500 are available for students in case you need funding for basic necessities such as clothing, food etc.
- You can also ask for an emergency loan from the department of student affairs: (Click on student emergency fund. Form to be submitted to the Administration Building, Room 242)
Employment:
- You may want to consider working in school. You can search for a part-time job on campus, which is usually the most flexible option. Visit the career center or SpartaJobs to look for jobs
Scholarships:
- You may find a resource sheet for scholarships for first generation students by clicking on Scholarship Information Flyer [PDF]
Clothing, Food, Personal Goods and Services
- There are various agencies throughout Santa Clara County that assist persons in need.
